Eight Dawson Road Maintenance locations across the Cariboo participated in a sandbag challenge this month, donating over 1,100 sandbags between them.

Ashcroft was the highest contributing yard with 240 sandbags, bagging 17 sandbags per employee. Likely placed a close second, with an average 13 bagged per staff member.

Other locations that participated included 100 Mile House, Bella Coola, Clinton, Horsefly, Lillooet and Williams Lake.

Winter maintenance crews and available personnel were challenged to bag as many sandbags as possible, when not needed on the road, and to partner with an organization to distribute. The initiative was driven with a desire to help our local communities with the sudden water increases that sometimes come with the snow melt.

Elcy LePage, Division Manager of Administration said she couldn’t be happier with the results and hopes to turn it into an annual province wide event next year.
